SA Spy is a home or office security utility designed to help you get a clear image of your computer usage while you are away. That is, of course, if you share your computer with your family or your colleagues.

The most important feature of this application is the fact that it can log all computer activity. Another crucial aspect is the fact that after installation, it can be run in stealth mode, so that no one will know that their activity is being logged.

The program can be set to log keystrokes, used programs and visited websites. You can also set the program to automatically take screenshots and save them in a folder for later viewing. All activity will be recorded into logs and screenshots for your later inspection. The logs can be limited to a certain number of characters in order to be sent via email. If you are away and wish check the logs as soon as possible, you can enter your email details so that the program should send automatically emails containing the reports.

It's best to set the program to run at Windows Startup in stealth mode. Toggling in and out of stealth mode can be done using a hotkey. You can protect the program with a password in case someone might want to mess with it.

Pluses:

Drawbacks / flaws: When trying to enter the stealth mode, the program would produce a runtime error and immediately shut down (Windows Vista HomePremium). When started in stealth mode, the program works fine.

In conclusion: Apart from that stability issue, this application would be a very good tool for you to spy on your co-workers or family.

Youtube Music Downloader is a neat utility you can use for downloading your favorite music videos from Youtube. And that's not all. The program ca be used for converting the files into various multimedia file formats.

The user interface is clean and carefully designed. The thing I liked a lot about this application was the fact that it's based on a browser engine and it allows you to browse directly the website (Youtube) for your favorite media. The in-built browser is designed to search directly among Youtube music categories. There's also a search engine included in case you search for specific items.

Downloading and converting media files is quite easy. You can either browse the clips using the inbuilt browser and download them directly or you can use the 'Add New Download' window. Whenever you open a clip in a web browser (IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.) and copy the video's URL, it will be automatically pasted into the program window in order to be downloaded.

All you have to do is to select your output format and settings as well as select a name for the new file and start downloading and converting. When the conversion process is complete, you can set the program to automatically open the target directory.

Pluses: Direct browsing of video files using the in-built browser.

This method will prevent your informations from malware, viruses or to be accessed by other programs. It can encrypt the informations on local and USB drives, CD's, DVD's. This enables the files to be portable and you can work with them on any other computer without installing the software locally.

First of all, the application will create a virtual disk where you will copy the needed files. After this you can set the firewall, enable or disable the autorun function. Every drive will be password protected. You can create several encrypted drives of various sizes.

If you wish to use an USB drive you should first install the Dekart on this drive and then create the image with all the files. Just right click the application and choose 'install to removable disk'.

With the backup mechanism you can recover a previous removable disk, if of course you have made a backup for it. This is very useful because of the corrupted files that can appear after encryption or because of the hardware problems of your USB drive.

JAlbum is a free, Java based tool, which allows you to generate photo albums with sliding pages for the web. This software was created by David Ekholm, and it aims to be one of the easiest to use and most powerful tool in this category.

There are already a lot of people using this album creator, for it is a versatile program which has a lot of features. For instance, you can drag and drop a folder containing your photos into JAlbum and it will display the photos in the editing window, allowing you to quick select an album skin and style, thumbnail and picture size, and preview it before saving it. That's just for starters, because there are many options available: presets, support for JPEG, JPG, BMP, GIF, PNG, WMPG format images. You can calculate the album size, extract comments from pictures, and much more. All skins have one or several CSS styles attached, so that you may choose one that is better suited for your album. What I like most about JAlbum is that is has many skins and styles that you can choose from, and they are all customizable.

This thing makes the program extremely easy to use.

At one time this freeware security suite was ubiquitous, but this edition isn't for the faint of heart.

McAfee VirusScan Plus 2007's interface strives to be novice-friendly, with cute green check marks and red crosses. Unfortunately, while the interface is novice-friendly, the program is not. Some advanced configurations are available only after drilling down two or three menus. During installation, McAfee asks for user input on an important settings question, but the small dialog box doesn't offer enough information to fully explain the ramifications of the settings.

Attempting to cover every security function, this suite handles more than viruses by adding a firewall, hard drive cleaner, disk defragmenter, and network security manager. By including everything and the kitchen sink, McAfee VirusScan Plus 2007 feels bloated. On most of our test machines it used more memory than we would have liked. Help is convoluted, and there's a chasm between the novice and expert user. We simply found McAfee too complex for novice users and not as advanced-user-friendly as similar suites.

WindowBlinds offers a generally compelling way to add some panache to Windows XP or Windows Vista. In short, the program lets you skin your graphic interface, offering a number of preconfigured themes that range in styles and change the entire look of your desktop. No matter what skin you choose, though, we doubt you'll have any complaints with the appearance of the polished, attractive themes.

You also choose from several toolbar icon sets to match your skin of choice and tweak settings such as the size of the taskbar. WindowBlinds gets high marks for performance; we found the skins loaded seamlessly after a couple of seconds. However, we should note that the program takes up its fair share of system resources.

If you want to edit the themes through the program, you'll have to install the publisher's SkinStudio, and we missed the ability to reassociate a wallpaper image of our choice with our selected themes. On the plus side, the trial version is extremely generous and offers plenty of opportunity for users to decide if they'd like to purchase the full version. Anyone who sits in front of a computer will find that WindowBlinds helps liven up the experience.
